New Delhi, 21 April (HS): Microblogging site Twitter has started removing free blue ticks from verified accounts as per its announcement. Twitter has removed blue ticks from its platform after 12 midnight on April 20 from accounts that did not pay the monthly charge for it.
Twitter has removed the blue tick status of a large number of influential people in India from unpaid accounts. These include many big names like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, cricketers Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma, and Bollywood actors Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar.
Twitter chief Elon Musk had said some time ago that from April 20 onwards, blue ticks will be removed from those Twitter accounts which have not yet taken the blue tick paid subscription. He had said that if Blue Tick is required, then a monthly charge will have to be paid for it.
According to Twitter, Android and iOS mobile users in India will have to pay a subscription fee of Rs 900 per month for Blue Tick. Web users will get a Blue subscription for Rs 650 per month. Web users will have to pay Rs 6,800 instead of Rs 7,800 with a discount on taking an annual subscription. There is no annual subscription plan for mobile users.
