Nobody can halt Narendra Modi’s ‘vikas rath’: Athawale

Bhopal, 28 Jan (HS): union Minister Ramdas Athawale praised JD(U) President Nitish Kumar’s decision to join the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance on Sunday, stating that it is better late than never. The central minister of state for social justice and empowerment stated that Kumar made the correct decision to join the NDA at the appropriate moment.

Earlier, Kumar resigned as Bihar’s chief minister, claiming that “things were not working well” for him in the Mahagathbandhan and the opposition group INDIA. He further claimed that he will create a new government with the BJP, which he had left less than 18 months earlier. Before his resignation, Kumar’s JD(U) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) were the state’s ruling parties.

“We warned Nitish ji not to go with Lalu Yadav (RJD chief), saying ‘they won’t treat you well. But it’s better late than never. I advised him to side with Modi. Now that he has made the right decision, I am thanking him,” Athawale told reporters here. The union minister argued that Kumar’s withdrawal dealt a major blow to the opposition alliance.

“Narendra Modi will be elected Prime Minister again in 2024. Nobody can halt Narendra Modi’s ‘vikas rath’, and we are all sitting on it,” Athawale remarked.

Athawale, the head of the Republican Party of India (A), also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’. “Why didn’t Rahul Gandhi’s party unify the country during the 70-year tenure of the Congress government? The Constitution is already unifying the nation. Narendra Modi is present to do this. Gandhi should go on a yatra to unify the Congress,” he remarked.

Referring to Gandhi’s defeat in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi constituency, which was previously considered a safe political stronghold for his family, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Athawale said that the Congress leader should be concerned about his own party.
