The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against three Pakistan-based handlers of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit, along with two others, in connection with the Rajouri attacks in January 2023. The attacks, which targeted civilians in village Dhangri, Rajouri district, resulted in seven deaths, including two children, and several injuries.
The three Pakistan-based LeT handlers, identified as Saifullah alias Sajid Jutt, Mohd Qasim, and Abu Qatal alias Qatal Sindhi, are charged with orchestrating the recruitment and dispatch of terrorists to target civilians and security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir. Two Overground workers (OGWs) of the LeT, Nisar Ahmed alias Haji Nisar and Mushtaq Hussain alias Chacha, were also chargesheeted for providing logistical support to the terrorists.
The NIA’s investigation revealed the involvement of these individuals in the terror attack and their efforts to support the terrorists by providing food, shelter, and logistics for about three months following the Dhangri attack. Additionally, Nisar Ahmed received arms, ammunition, and cash from the Pakistan-based handlers.
The chargesheeted individuals face charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code. A report against an apprehended juvenile involved in the case will be submitted to the Juvenile Justice Board, Rajouri.
