In a joint operation by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the local police at the Indo-Nepal frontier, a man from Nepal was captured with illegal substances valued at around ?5 crore. The operation took place in Maharajganj on February 22nd, as disclosed by a high-ranking officer.
The individual, identified as 24-year-old Basant Khatri from Dang district in Nepal, was intercepted while en route to Nepal from India. He was found in Sonauli carrying 9.898 kilograms of charas, an illegal substance estimated to be worth ?5 crore in the international arena.
Authorities have since charged Khatri under the appropriate sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, signaling a significant crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking.
