Kolkata, February 22: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Central paramilitary forces are set to be deployed in West Bengal, possibly before the official announcement of the elections. A State Election Commission official indicated that the forces might begin arriving in the state by the end of February. It is anticipated that around 920 companies of Central forces will be stationed in West Bengal for the election period.
The Election Commission is also gathering information on all polling stations considered sensitive. A comprehensive review by the Commission is scheduled, with its full bench arriving in West Bengal on March 4. The following day, discussions are planned with political parties and law enforcement agencies.
This initiative follows a comparative analysis of polling station data from the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2021 Assembly elections. District Magistrates are tasked with identifying polling stations in sensitive and troubled regions based on this data. This information will be crucial in formulating a detailed strategy for the deployment of forces.
