Lucknow, 21 February (HS): An alliance with the Congress would take place in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav said on Wednesday, days after his party stated that he would join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra only if its seat-sharing plan for the Lok Sabha elections is approved. Yadav did not attend the yatra in Raebareli on Tuesday.
When questioned about a possible alliance with the Congress in the state, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) said it will be made public shortly. On Monday, the SP announced that it has offered 17 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to Congress.
The SP and the Congress are allies in the INDIA alliance, which was created by opposition parties to challenge the BJP in the 2019 general elections. The Akhilesh-led party had already promised 11 seats to the Congress.
