Varanasi court grants priests’ kin permission to worship deities in Gyanvapi mosque cellar

Varanasi, 31 Jan (HS): According to Hindu side lawyer Madan Mohan Yadav, the Varanasi district court on Wednesday granted the family of a priest permission to worship Hindu deities in the Gyanvapi mosque cellar. A K Vishvesh, the district court judge, issued the ruling. According to the petition, priest Somnath Vyas used to worship there until 1993, when authorities shuttered the cellar.

According to Advocate Yadav, the district administration would make plans to do puja, which will be sponsored by the Kashi Vishwanath Trust. Shailendra Kumar Pathak, Somnath Vyas’ maternal grandson, has claimed the permission to worship deities there.
