Hyderabad/Delhi, 30 November (HS): The polling process for the 119 seats in Telangana has officially begun, as voters exercise their right to vote in the 35,655 polling stations set up across the state.
With a total of 3.26 crore eligible voters, the State has a total of 2,290 candidates in the running, including prominent figures such as Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, his Minister-son K.T. Rama Rao, and State Congress president A. Revanth Reddy.
The ruling party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has fielded candidates in all 119 seats, while their alliance partners BJP and Jana Sena Party are contesting in 111 and eight seats respectively. The main opposition party, Congress, has given one seat to its ally CPI and is fighting for the remaining 118 seats.
Apart from the political battle, each party has rolled out their manifestos with promises such as life insurance cover for below poverty line families, free electricity for agricultural use, and crop loan waivers.
Amidst all this, the BJP’s focus is on fulfilling PM Modi’s guarantee under the banner of “Sakala Janula Saubhagya Telangana.”
It will be interesting to see which party’s promises will sway the voters in this highly anticipated election.
