New Delhi, 30 November (HS): The latest development in the ongoing case involving an Indian official and an individual linking him to an alleged plot to kill terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun in USA has caused deep concern in India.
External affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed this concern on Thursday, emphasising that it goes against government policy and necessitates serious attention. Bagchi also highlighted the interconnectedness of organised crime, trafficking, gunrunning, and extremism at an international-level, stating that a high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate these connections.
This development follows discussions with the United States on bilateral security cooperation, during which the US provided crucial information on these criminal activities.
The case in question involves an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, who has been charged by USA prosecutors with murder-for-hire for allegedly paying a hitman to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. This case raises serious issues for law enforcement agencies and organisations to consider and is being closely monitored by the Indian government.
