Washington, 30 Nov (HS): Former US Foreign Affairs Minister and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger, 100, died on Wednesday at his Connecticut residence. A successful politician, he had written a book on international affairs.
Born in Germany, he moved to the USA with his family due to the Nazis. He became an American citizen in 1943 and was a part of several international events. Kissinger played an important role in reaching the Vietnam Peace Agreement.
Kissinger was criticised for his support to Pakistan in 1971, and for the mass killing of the people of Bangladesh. He also supported George Bush Government during the war against Iraq. Kissinger is accredited with initiating diplomatic talks with China.
He was nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, which was rejected. Nobel Prize Selection Committee faced criticism for rejecting Kissinger?s nomination.
