Lucknow, 29 Nov (HS): A delegation from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, comprising of MPs Lopon Thupten Gyaltsen, Wangdue Dorjee, and Pema Tso, continued their Tibet campaign in Uttar Pradesh. The delegation met with Governor Anandiben Patel, Speaker of the UP Legislative Assembly Satish Mahana, Leader of the Opposition Akhilesh Yadav, Minister for Agriculture, Agriculture Education, and Agriculture Research in the Uttar Pradesh Government, Surya Pratap Shahi, and other distinguished leaders.
The Tibetan delegation began their visit to the BJP’s printing press, Kamal Jyoti, where they were told on the plans to produce a book about Tibet. During their tour, the Tibetan MPs offered their perspectives on the current situation and fielded questions from the press.
They also met Samdesh Meshram, popularly known as Samten Yeshi, a devout Tibet supporter who has organized cycle-rally efforts to boost Tibet awareness. The group then paid a courtesy visit on Satish Mahana, Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
The MPs informed him on the catastrophic situation in Tibet during the discussion, citing concerns such as the erosion of Tibetan language, culture, and religion as a result of oppressive Chinese policies. MPs urged the Indian federal and state governments to provide more help. Speaker expressed empathy with Tibetans’ situation and guaranteed the delegation of the state legislature’s ongoing support. Furthermore, the Tibetan MPs met with Akhilesh Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition, to discuss and gather support for their cause in campaigning for Tibet.
The team formally met with Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh. They offered the governor with a full briefing on the terrible situation involving the degradation of Tibetan language, culture, and religion in Tibet under Chinese administration. The team sincerely requested the state government’s continued support for the Tibetan cause, highlighting specific obstacles encountered by Tibetan knitwear merchants in the region.
The governor generously restated her unequivocal support for the cause. Tibetan lawmakers made a courtesy call on Surya Pratap Shahi. They emphasized Tibet’s historical standing as an autonomous nation, noting that since China’s occupation of Tibet in 1959, it has been embroiled in disputes with neighboring nations and throughout the world. Tibetans, according to the group, urge for truth and a nonviolent approach to resolving long-standing Sino-Tibetan conflicts.
