MLAs of Samajwadi Party continue to protest, dress in black

Lucknow, 29 Nov (HS): With the implementation of new regulations preventing lawmakers from bringing phones, political posters, or flags in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Samajwadi Party members resumed their anti-government demonstrations on the second day of the session. Several SP MLAs dressed in black attended the meeting.

Shivpal Singh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party’s national general secretary, expressed serious reservations over the Yogi government’s supplementary budget. Shivpal claims that more than half of the state money allotted to any department has not been used. He accuses the Yogi government of being obsessed with numbers but failing to execute them effectively.

During his speech to the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Samajwadi Party head Akhilesh Yadav questioned if the government bought wheat or delegated the task to private corporations. He emphasised that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on farming equipment ranged from 12% to 18%. Akhilesh Yadav asked if the administration, with its dual power structure, would cut the GST to help farmers or offer direct aid from the state treasury.

“Did the government purchase the wheat, or did private companies? I’d like to point out that the GST on farm equipment ranges from 12% to 18%. Will this two-engine government lower the GST to help farmers?” he wondered. The Uttar Pradesh Assembly session started on November 28 and will end on December 1.
