New Delhi, March 29 (HS): The Election Commission of India may announce the Karnataka assembly election schedule at a press conference today (Wednesday). The commission has called a press conference at 11:30 am. The tenure of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will end on May 24.
In the last assembly elections (2018), out of 224 seats, BJP won 104 seats. Despite being the single largest party, the BJP stayed away from power. JDS and Congress formed the government in the post-poll alliance. Later the resignation of Congress and JDS MLAs led to the fall of the Kumaraswamy government. After this, the BJP formed the government under the leadership of BS Yeddyurappa. But Yeddyurappa resigned as Chief Minister on July 26, 2021, the second anniversary of his fourth term. Basavaraj Bommai replaced him on July 28, 2021.
