Kathmandu, 28 Nov (HS):- Restoring monarchy in Nepal is impossible now, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sherbahadur Deuba said. Deuba is the president of the biggest partner in the ruling alliance.
Demonstrations are being held in Nepal on a very large scale demanding restoration of monarchy and making Nepal a Hindu state again. The demonstrators have been demanding a review of the decision to make Nepal a secular state. Various political parties are putting forward their views in response to the demands.
Deuba said that Nepal cannot retract from declaring it a democratic and republic state. It cannot budge to the pressures from any political party. In the 21st century expecting restoration of monarchy is not possible. A discussion on secularism is possible, as it is related to the feelings of the masses. The issues of declaring Nepal a Hindu state and restoration of monarchy cannot be considered together.
