Irish author Paul Lynch wins Booker Prize

London, 27 Nov (HS):- Irish author Paul Lynch’s book “Prophet Song” was named the winner of the Booker Prize of 2023. The prize of 50,000 pounds and a Trophy were presented to him during a ceremony held at Old Billingsgate, London on Sunday.

Lynch, 46, closely defeated Indian-origin writer Chetna Maru?s novel ?Western Lane?.

Canadian novelist Edugyan, who has been twice listed for the Booker Prize said that the decision to award Lynch was not unanimous and settled on by discussion and multiple rounds of voting that lasted about six hours on Saturday.

According to London?s newspaper The Times, Lynch?s book describes Ireland that is descending into tyranny.

Lynch is the fifth Irish writer to win the Booker prize. Six writers were in the fray for the prestigious prize, including Chetna Maru. Her book Western Lane was related to British Gujarat.
