World Skill Centre project mooted in UP; to be presented to Yogi for approval

Lucknow, 26 April (HS): As part of its commitment to empowering the youth of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath Government is now working on the World Skill Center project to provide advanced-level skill training to the youth of the state, which will enable them to work both domestically and abroad.

A presentation on this was recently given by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission to the Chief Secretary. Soon the same presentation will be made before the chief minister, and after getting his approval, efforts will be made to implement it on the ground, officials here on Wednesday said.

The proposed World Skill Center project aims at creating a center of excellence in the state where the skills of the youth of the state could be raised to a new level through collaboration with international experts.

Youth will be trained at the centre in courses that are in great demand across the world, equipping them with international-level skills and preparing them for both domestic and global labour markets. The state government feels that a big proportion of the state’s educated young migrate overseas for work. Professionals such as software, hardware, and petrochemical engineers, as well as physicians, fall within this category.

However, in terms of abilities, Indian youngsters fall short of global expectations. As a result, the Centre of Excellence will train adolescents in the skills required by the global employment market. The name of this Centre of Excellence will be the ‘World Skill Centre.’

TUV SUD Germany and EHL Switzerland will be included as foreign partners in the World Skill Centre’s planned initiative. SUD is a technological enterprise, whereas EHL Switzerland is a hospitality and hotel management organisation. Youth will gain skills in hospitality and tourism, retail services, and logistics, as well as training in accounting, banking, and finance. To be admitted to this centre, candidates must be between the ages of 17 and 23, as well as a 12th-grade pass-out with English as a subject and familiarity of Microsoft Office. Furthermore, applications from applicants between the ages of 17 and 23 will be considered.

Placement will be offered to 70% of trained youth, with attempts being made to provide worldwide placement to 10% to 15%. According to the plan, EHL and TUV-SUD would build the course curriculum based on the needs of Indian and foreign sectors.

The hotel sector course will run for one and a half years, while the other industries course will last one year and involve an internship. According to the idea, the cost for a hospitality course may be 3 lakhs, while the charge for other courses might be 1.5 lakhs. These courses might be good for students who dropped out of college after the 12th grade. The action plan will be created only when the Chief Minister has approved all of these ideas.
