New Delhi, March 25 (HS): The second edition of ‘Vitasta: The Festival of Kashmir’ will be organized in Maharashtra’s Pune as part of Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsav. Organized by the Ministry of Culture from March 31 to April 2 this year, MIT, Vishwa Shanti University and Pune University will have a special partnership in the festival.
The objective of this initiative is to acquaint the entire country with the vast cultural heritage, diversity and uniqueness of Kashmir, especially those countrymen who have not yet had the opportunity to visit this holy land.
In this program, many types of presentations will be given by artists belonging to various fields like music art, dance art, and handicraft art.
The festival is centred around the folk beliefs associated with the Vitasta River, which has been considered extremely sacred since Vedic times. The mention of this river is found in many ancient texts like Neelmat Purana, Vitasta Mahamaya, Harcharita Chintamani, and Rajatarangini. It is believed that the pure currents of this revered river destroy all the evils of human nature.
