Every three months, special effort to be launched to combat illegal drugs cultivation and smuggling in UP

Lucknow, 24 Nov (HS): A special campaign will be run every three months against illegal cultivation and smuggling of narcotics in Uttar Pradesh. State Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra directed officials in this regard on Friday.

The Chief Secretary was presiding over the fourth meeting of the State Level Committee of Narco Co-ordination Center (ENCORD) today. During this, he said that a special campaign should be conducted every three months against illegal cultivation and smuggling of narcotics in the state. People should be made aware about de-addiction through religious leaders and audio-videos of people who have become de-addiction should be played and shown to the general public.

The Chief Secretary also gave instructions to bring progress in the districts where action against drugs is going on slowly. He said that by improving mutual coordination, regular attention should be paid to joint operations. Regular zone wise review should be done by the concerned officers. Awareness campaigns against de-addiction should be conducted from primary schools to universities.

It was informed in the meeting that a total of 54866.91 kg of drugs was recovered at the state level and 7335 cases were registered, in which the number of accused is 9174. Under Section 68 (E) and (F) of the NDPS Act, action for confiscation of property was taken in Hapur and Mathura districts.

Apart from this, 02 drug factories in Agra and one in Bareilly were demolished. The Excise Department, in coordination with the State Police, recovered 804.337 kg of ganja in 16 cases till the month of September 2023. In the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Food Safety and Drugs Anita Singh, Principal Secretary Social Welfare Hari Om, Secretary Medical and Health Ranjan Kumar, Secretary Agriculture Raj Shekhar, DIG Anti Narcotics Task Force Abdul Hameed, ADG Crime SK Bhagat and other senior officers of the concerned departments were present.
