Opposition demonstrated against suspension of MPs

New Delhi, 22 December (HS): Leaders of INDIA constituent parties demonstrated at Jantar Mantar here on Friday to protest against the suspension of opposition MPs. During this, leaders of other opposition parties including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury and RJD MP Manoj Jha were present.

Addressing the program, Kharge said that Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have taken the initiative to destroy the democracy and Constitution of the country. These people are working to crush Dalits, labourers, women and farmers and that is why “we have formed INDIA alliance to save the country”.

Kharge further said that people holding high constitutional posts say, “I am a man of this caste, hence they are insulting me. We are not even allowed to read the notices in the House, so can I say that the Modi government Doesn’t even allow Dalits to speak!”

NCP chief Sharad Pawar said that the opposition is united to save democracy. For this “we are ready to pay any price.”

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said that the suspension of MPs is undemocratic. The opposition is being prevented from speaking.

RJD MP Manoj Jha said, “Democracy has been murdered. Now the opposition has to come together to revive democracy.”

CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said, “We need to save democracy from those who are currently in power. The government should answer on the security lapse issue in Parliament.”

It is noteworthy that 146 opposition MPs who were protesting in both the Houses over the security lapse in Parliament were suspended. INDIA constituent parties held a nationwide demonstration today in protest against it.
