Delhi Court extends remand of accused in Parliament security breach case

Delhi, 22 December (HS): The Patiala House Court of Delhi has extended the custodial remand of accused Lalit Jha by 14 days in the Parliament security breach case. Jha was produced before the court by the Special Cell of Delhi Police at the end of the earlier remand period granted last week.

Delhi Police had informed the court that Jha had disclosed during interrogation that all the accused had met multiple times and planned the conspiracy to create anarchy in the country. The police also revealed that Jha had taken the phones of other accused to destroy evidence and hide their larger motive.

The Public Prosecutor representing Delhi Police further stated that a thorough investigation was required to uncover the larger conspiracy and any possible involvement with enemy countries or terror organizations. Taking note of these submissions, Additional Sessions Judge Dr Hardeep Kaur extended the custody of Lalit Jha till January 5, 2023.

The security breach occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack, where four people were sent to seven-day custody by the Special Cell.
