BSP a secular party that values all religions: Mayawati

Lucknow, 21 Dec (HS): National President of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati held a press conference on Thursday. During this she said that BSP is a secular party. ?There are people living in our country following different religions, which BSP has always respected. Our party has no objection to the inauguration of the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh,? she said. Former Chief Minister Mayawati said in her statement that whenever a mosque is constructed on the orders of the court in Ayodhya, even then our party will not object to its inauguration.

?Our party fully respects all religious places. But for the last few years, disgusting politics is being done, this is sad and worrying, which should not happen. This will only make our country weaker, not stronger,? she opined.

At a news conference in Lucknow on Thursday, BSP president Mayawati voiced her sorrow and sadness at the suspension of about 150 opposition MPs from both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Mayawati called the episode “sad and unfortunate in Parliamentary history,” emphasizing that such a move is harmful to both the government and the opposition. “Our party believes that suspending approximately 150 opposition MPs in both Houses during the current Parliamentary session is neither good work nor a good record for the government or the opposition. Whoever is to blame, this is a sad and unfortunate incident in Parliamentary history that will shake people’s trust,” Mayawati remarked.

A total of 143 MPs, 97 from the Lok Sabha and 46 from the Rajya Sabha, have been suspended for causing confusion and interrupting proceedings by demanding a reply from union Minister Amit Shah about the Parliament security breach. Mayawati further slammed the suspended MPs’ behaviour, citing a viral video of Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee impersonating Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar during a protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar. Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, was observed documenting the event on his phone. In addressing the wider problem of preserving democratic parliamentary traditions, Mayawati emphasized the significance of avoiding sharp disagreements, tensions, and confrontations between the government and the opposition. She asked all parties to take mutual responsibility for protecting legislative traditions.

Mayawati also addressed the security lapse in Parliament, calling it a significant worry. She demanded a thorough inquiry and harsh legal consequences for anybody found guilty of colluding in the breach. Mayawati stressed the importance of increased security and asked the intelligence department to be watchful in order to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Two persons, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D, stormed into the Lok Sabha chamber on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror assault, spewing yellow gas and yelling anti-establishment chants. In another instance, two protesters, Neelam and Amol, used identical gas canisters to demonstrate outside the Parliament.

She went on to say that it is not appropriate to make inappropriate remarks against the BSP and other opposition parties that are not members of the opposition coalition. ?It is impossible to predict who could require someone in the public interest in the future. It is not appropriate for any side to incur shame in such a circumstance. In this regard, the Samajwadi Party is likewise a living example,? she said prior to signing off.
