PepsiCo to spend $400k to expand clean water access in UP

Lucknow, 20 March (HS): The PepsiCo Foundation announced on Monday that it will contribute $4 lakh in Mathura in collaboration with the Pandit Jagat Ram Memorial FORCE Trust, to improve its clean water access and sustainable sanitation initiative.

According to the Foundation, this programme is in line with the central government’s three major campaigns: the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Jal Shakti Mission, and the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The PepsiCo Foundation will assist provide increased access to fresh water for drinking and domestic needs as part of this programme, affecting more than 20,000 individuals and 3,000 children across 13 villages in the Mathura district over a three-year period.

The collaboration will also raise WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) awareness, concentrating on sanitation, solid waste management, and hygiene practices, as well as water quality, safety, and personal health behaviours, affecting 50,000 people and 3,000 children.

“This investment is a logical extension of our worldwide aim of becoming net water positive by 2030, helping to restore more water than we consume, and is a critical pillar of our purpose programme,” said PepsiCo India President Ahmed ElSheikh.

PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation have developed over a dozen new programmes since August 2021 to alter the company’s water-use efficiency, replenishment, and safe water access activities.
