Delhi, 18 December (H.S): The high-level committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’ under former president Ram Nath Kovind is scheduled to meet on Monday to review the progress made so far. This includes discussions on the responses received from various political parties regarding the idea of simultaneous elections.
According to sources, there is no specific agenda for the “informal” meeting, but it is expected that the committee will discuss the feedback received from the parties. In its first meeting, the committee had decided to seek the views of political parties on this matter.
Recently, they had also sent letters to six national parties, 33 state parties, and seven registered unrecognised parties, inviting their suggestions and seeking an interaction on a mutually agreed date. With this meeting, the committee is taking an important step towards exploring the possibility of holding simultaneous elections in India through a consultative approach with all political parties.
