Washington, October 17 (HS): Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman visited the National Science Foundation Headquarters (NSF) here today. Here she was exposed to key issues such as astronomy, AI for robotics and public messaging during the health crisis.
Sitharaman arrived in the capital to attend the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. FM began his six-day visit by interacting with the think-tank community at the prestigious Brookings Institute.

At NSF, Sitharaman was apprised by a virtual presentation by eminent astronomy professors, and public messaging during health crises like corona and AI for robotics, agriculture and environmental sustainability with applications.
Dr. Katherine Baumann, lead researcher for the breakthrough discovery of black holes, Abhijit Banerjee, Nobel laureate and economist, and Dr Girish Chowdhary, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Earth Sense, made the presentation.
NSF Director Dr Sethuraman Panchanathan briefed Sitharaman about the working of the Foundation. Panchanathan said that India and the US have promoted taking society forward over the years. Global collaboration has driven amazing things from capturing the first images of black holes to battling pandemics.
