Srinagar, 15 December (H.S): Kashmiri Pandits marked a significant moment today by installing a Shiva Lingam in the Trichal area of Pulwama in South Kashmir after a gap of nearly 34 years.
The initiative was led by the Sarpanch of the village, Debu Raina, in collaboration with local Pandits and the supportive Muslim community. Following the establishment of the Shiva Lingam, prayers were conducted with a focus on fostering peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing her sentiments, Sarpanch Debu Raina said, ?While normally I refrain from making specific requests in my prayers, today I prayed for the peace of Jammu and Kashmir so that we can coexist harmoniously. I chose to install the Shiva Lingam here to serve as a protective symbol for the entire village, guarding it against any harm.?
Raina acknowledged the support of the Muslim community, reminiscing about past cultural exchanges. ?During the installation, I recalled the times when we celebrated each other?s festivals. Muslims extended warm wishes during Navratri, and we reciprocated by visiting them during Eid. I sincerely hope for a return to those days,? she said.
Locals who actively participated in the installation shared their sentiments about the historical and religious significance of the site for the Pandit community. ?This is a momentous day for the Pandit community as they revive the sanctity of this place after years. My father used to speak of the importance of this place for the Pandits,? one resident said.
Others expressed optimism about the gesture fostering unity between the two communities. ?We are delighted that they have come here, and we are confident that they will continue to live with us in brotherhood, just as they have in the past,? he said.
He emphasised the commitment to safeguarding all auspicious places of the Pandits in the area, ensuring their protection and preservation.
