Prayagraj, 15 Dec (HS): The Allahabad Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society is proud to announce the upcoming Scientific Sangam Conference, taking place from 15th to 17th December 2023 in Allahabad. This highly anticipated conference will provide a platform for gynaecologists, ANM staff, and healthcare professionals to discuss and address various topics relevant to the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.

With the rising incidence of caesarean deliveries in India, the government has implemented interventions to promote and encourage normal deliveries as a safer and healthier option for both mothers and babies. According to recent statistics, caesarean section rates in India have increased to over 21% in 2019-21, exceeding the World Health Organization’s recommended rate of 10-15%.

To address this concern, the Allahabad Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society, in collaboration with the government, has taken initiatives to raise awareness about the benefits of natural birthing. As part of the Scientific Sangam Conference, a workshop on natural birthing will be held, led by a team of esteemed doctors from Wardha Medical College, led by Dr. Poonam Shivkumar and Pravara Institution of Medical Sciences, Loni led by Dr Vidyadhar Bangal and Dr Shelke. This workshop aims to educate healthcare professionals about the essential elements of respectful labour care, ideal labour room conditions, and the importance of birth companions during the delivery process.

Dr. Poonam Shivkumar, emphasized the need for respectful labour care, ideal labour room conditions, and the importance of having a birth companion during the delivery process. “These key elements are essential in promoting and achieving successful normal deliveries,” Dr. Poonam remarked.

Furthermore, Dr. Ranjana Khanna, the organizing chairperson of the conference, highlighted the significance of non-pharmacological methods such as hydro labour and effective pain management techniques like the peanut ball. These techniques, Dr. Khanna stressed, need to be mastered by healthcare professionals to provide the highest level of patient care during the birthing process.

In addition to promoting natural birthing, the Allahabad Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society recently organized a public forum focused on eradicating anemia. The forum was attended by doctors and healthcare staff and was headed by Dr. Hrishikesh Pai, the President of National FOGSI, along with prominent Prayagraj gynaecologists such as Dr. Ranjana Khanna, Dr. Amita Tripathi, Dr. Amrita Chaurasia, Dr. Shubha Pandey, Dr. Sabita Agarwal, Dr. Manju Varma, Dr. Uma Jaiswal, Dr. Chitra Pandey, and others. The forum aimed to address the high prevalence of anaemia in women and develop strategies to combat this public health issue.

Fetal Medicine Workshop discussed first-trimester anomaly detection and live ultrasound sessions for all trimesters to monitor the health of the baby inside the mother’s womb.
