Noida, 12 Dec (HS): The Uttar Pradesh government has reversed an order issued on August 30 that prohibited coaching establishments from providing courses for girls beyond 8 p.m. The latest order, signed on December 4, by Special Secretary Akhilesh Kumar Mishra, follows considerable criticism of the prior guidelines in Noida under the ‘Safe City’ initiative. “The following guidelines are being issued as a result of the cancellation of previously issued guidelines. All higher educational institutions should ensure 100% CCTV cameras in connection with the establishment of the Safe City project,” the decree added.
“The said cameras should be installed on the educational institution’s entrance and exit gates, campus, teaching rooms (inside and outside), gallery, verandah, and main gate, as well as hostels. Separate bathrooms for female students shall be provided in higher education institutions, particularly coaching centers,? according to the decree. The letter dated August 30 specified that coaching institutes should not provide courses for girls after 8 p.m.
“If coaching institutes where girls are studying are found operating after 8 pm, punitive action will be taken against them,” read the now-revoked directive. While numerous students in Noida and Greater Noida questioned the earlier August 30 decision, opposition party leaders in Uttar Pradesh attacked the state administration, citing the “law and order” situation in “Safe City” Noida.
