Delhi, 12 December (HS): The first session of the newly-constituted 9th Mizoram Assembly is set to begin on Tuesday, as summoned by Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati.
According to officials, the session will commence on December 12 and senior Zoram People?s Movement (ZPM) MLA Lalfamkima has been appointed as the protem Speaker.
He will administer the oath of office to the newly-elected members and conduct the election of the new Speaker. The 57-year-old leader, elected from Kolasib constituency, will preside over the session as the ZPM secured 27 seats in the 40-member assembly during the November 7 elections.
The Mizo National Front-led government was voted out, with the MNF securing only 10 seats, and the BJP securing two seats. This marks a significant shift in power in Mizoram, and all eyes are on the first session of the assembly to see how the new government will lead the state.
