Warsaw, 12 Dec (HS): The Centrist Donald Tusk has been elected the new Prime Minister of Poland. Tusk has been given a mandate to run the coalition government by the Parliament.
The election of Tusk will end the rule of the right-wing nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party, which held power for the last eight years. Tusk defeated Monteusz Morawiecki 248/201. Tusk who held the position earlier has returned to power. His party won the parliamentary elections, held on October 15.
Tusk thanked the people of Poland and called this an important day for the Polish people. Tusk will be sworn in on Wednesday morning by President Andrzej Duda.
