Delhi, 11 December (HS): The Supreme Court made a significant decision regarding the state of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The apex court has directed the central government to hold elections in the state by September 30, 2024. This decision was made during a hearing on a petition seeking the restoration of statehood in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud stated that the Election Commission of India must take necessary steps to conduct elections for the J&K assembly by the given deadline. The court also emphasised that the restoration of statehood should take place as soon as possible.
