Adopt life ideals of ex-PM Shastri: Prez to students

Varanasi, 11 Dec (HS): President Droupadi Murmu exhorted students at Varanasi’s Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith on Monday to emulate former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, a student of the institution’s inaugural batch. In her address to the 45th convocation of the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, the president stated that the institution’s relationship with two Bharat Ratnas is indicative of its great legacy.

Murmu further stated that the first vice chancellor of this Vidyapith was Bharat Ratna Dr Bhagwan Das, and former Prime Minister Shastri was a student in the inaugural batch of this school. She expects pupils at this institution to embody Shastri ji’s life ideals in their behaviour.

The president stated that the journey of this Vidyapith began 26 years before the country’s independence with the ideals of “self-reliance” and “swaraj” as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. “This university, as an institution born out of the non-cooperation movement, is a living symbol of our great freedom struggle,” she said, adding that all students at this Vidyapith are the flag bearers of our freedom struggle’s national values.

The president stated that calling the Kashi Vidyapith, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith was done to show respect for the values of our independence fight. Murmu stated that adhering to those beliefs and effectively contributing to the country’s prosperity during the Amrit Kaal will be a worthy monument to the Vidyapith’s nation-building founders.

Varanasi, according to the president, has been the heart of Indian knowledge heritage from ancient times. “Even today, the institutions in this city are contributing in the promotion of modern knowledge and science,” she went on to say. Murmu advised the students and professors of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith to continue increasing the grandeur of their institution in keeping with the center of knowledge’s legacy.
