Lucknow, 11 Dec (HS): Jyotiraditya Scindia, union Civil Aviation Minister, stated on Monday that nine new airports will be built in Uttar Pradesh over the next two years. Scindia stated during the Rajya Sabha Question Hour that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government places a high value on civil aviation.
He said that just 74 airports were built in the first 65 years of independence, but 75 had been built in the previous nine years of the Modi administration, bringing the total to 149. Airports, heliports, and waterdromes are included in the total. According to the civil aviation minister, just three greenfield airports have been built in 65 years, but the present administration has produced 12 greenfield airports since 2014.
Scindia stated that six airports were built in Uttar Pradesh over the course of 65 years.
According to the minister, three more airports have been built in the state in the previous nine years. Scindia stated that nine additional airports will be built in Uttar Pradesh during the next two years, bringing the total to 18.
In response to a question concerning the Meerut airport, the minister stated that VFR (Visual Flight Rating) operations with ATR aircraft can begin after the state government delivers an additional 115 acres of land. Scindia stated in a written response that Meerut is an unlicensed airport that was picked during the third round of bidding under the UDAN project for development and to conduct RCS flights.
The Meerut-Lucknow-Meerut route was granted to FlyBig via the UDAN 4.2 round of bidding for the operation of RCS flights with 19-seater aircraft and a frequency of 133 seats per week, rather than ATR 72. Only until the airport is completed and licensed can the Selected Airlines Operator begins flying RCS flights from Meerut, he added.
