BJP govt should either transfer funding to Bengal or leave office: Mamata

Alipurduar, 10 Dec (HS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claimed on Sunday that the Centre owes the state ?1.15 lakh crore and that the BJP-led NDA government should either pay funds or leave the office.

Banerjee further stated that she had sought the appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in order to obtain the clearance of the state’s debts. “Bengal would be seeking funds in the amount of ?1.15 lakh crore… We shall raise the slogan “Give poor people money or leave the chair,” the chief minister declared during a public meeting in Alipurduar.

During the event, the chief minister launched 70 projects totaling more than ?93 crore.

“I’ll be in Delhi with a few MPs. I have requested a meeting with the Prime Minister between December 18-20 to discuss the release of our outstanding debts,” Banerjee stated.

She also argued that if the Centre had cleared the state’s debts, her administration might have included more individuals in its social assistance programs. “… I always keep my promise, unlike the BJP, which had promised to reopen all closed tea gardens… I could have offered social schemes to more people if we had received our dues,” the leader of the Trinamool Congress told reporters. The CM stated that West Bengal owes money on a variety of accounts, including 100 days of MGNREGA labour, housing, and the state’s portion of GST collection.

The state BJP leadership has frequently alleged that the flow of funding to Bengal under MNREGA was halted due to its failure to provide accounting for previous monetary assistance.
