Indian-origin Anusha Shah became President of ICC

London, 08 Nov (HS): In the 205 years history of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICC) an Indian-origin Prof, Anusha Shah, has been elected President. ICC is an independent and charitable organisation, having about 95,000 members.

Anusha Shah assumed charge as 159th President of ICC at its headquarters in London. An expert in water and environment engineering Prof Shah spoke about climatic change and environmental protection after taking charge. She holds 22 years experience of British and international project design and management.

She said that construction work is responsible for harming about 30 per cent of biodiversity. Engineers with proper planning can stop this adverse effect on the environment and positive approach.

Anusha Shah was born and brought up in Kashmir. At the age of 23 she approached a company that was a consultant for the protection of Dal Lake in Kashmir. She was one among the two who received the Commonwealth Scholarship in 1999. She studied water and environment protection at Surrey University and acquired a doctoral degree in 2021 from the University of East London. She became a fellow of ICC in 2016. She is the youngest President and the first woman to become President of ICC.
