Bengaluru, 08 December (H.S): The ?International Conference on Advanced Air Mobility Systems – ICAAMS was inaugurated today at Airforce Station Yelahanka. This three-day event ICAAMS is a joint initiative of Vertical Flight Society (VFS) International and Rotary Wing Society of India (RWSI).
In his Opening Address the Vice President VFS Asia Australia and Chair of ICAAMS-1, Dr Arvind Sinha said ?The ICAAMS has been established as platform for researchers, designers, manufacturers, regulators , operators and maintainers for exchange of innovative ideas and for joint development of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircrafts?. AAM aircrafts are designed and operated to provide Urban and Regional Air Mobility.
In the welcome Address to Delegates, Air Chief Marshal ACS Fali H Major (Retd) provided the chronology of Indian Aerospace and Aviation and its present status. The ICAAMS-1 has drawn delegates from USA, Canada, Europe, Japan, Australia, Singapore, Thailand, India and many more.
Supported by Melbourne University (Mel Uni) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) as the Academic Institution leads; a Joint Study on AAM was announced by Jason Monty of Melbourne University and SN Omkar of IISc, to explore collaboration between Australia and India, as a start.
AAM aircraft is the way forward for a country like India to address its growing road travel congestion in its major cities.
At the evening banquet of ICAAMS, another new initiative was the establishment of the VFS Asia Australia Awards; for recognition of individuals in the region for their contribution to Aerospace and Aviation related to Vertical Lift. Those awarded were from India, UAE, Thailand and Australia. At the evening RWSI Lifetime Awards were also conferred.
The ICAAMS series will now be a yearly event on a rotational basis in the Asia-Australian region. The schedule for the next ten years has been finalised, with ICAAMS-2 at Singapore from 5-6 Dec 2024, followed by Thailand and UAE.

The event was Coordinated to perfection in accordance with the Program Schedule by Col Ananth Srinivas (Retd).
The catalyst to the birth of ICAAMS was the Invitation by Air Vice Marshal K Sridharan, President Emeritus and past and founder President of RWSI and Wg Cdr BS Singh Deo the VP RWSI, to Dr Arvind Sinha (from Australia) a Subject Matter Expert, for a Guest Lecture on Urban Air Mobility and it?s future in Indian Context.
The Banquet and Awards evening witnessed the Handing Taking over of ICAAMS from India to Singapore and that of Chair from Dr Arvind Sinha to Dr Vijaya Kumar, the Deputy Chair.
Mike Hirschberg of VFS HQs said ?It has been a wonderful experience to see our VP Asia Australia Arvind Sinha and RWSI President A Butola work jointly and perfectly tuned.
Airforce Station Yealankha magnanimously offered their facility as the Venue for ICAAMS for which the VFS and RWSI remain indebted and were in full appreciation of the present Station Commander Air Cmdre Rohit Vijaydev.
