New Delhi, December 8 (HS): The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the Bar Council of India (BCI) while hearing a petition seeking the mandatory inclusion of the Right to Education (RTE) in the syllabus of law courses. A bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Manmohan ordered the next hearing on the matter on January 24, 2024.
This petition has been filed by lawyers Ashok Aggarwal and Kumar Utkarsh on behalf of an organisation called Social Jurist. It has been said in the petition that the petitioner had demanded from BCI the mandatory inclusion of RTE in law courses, but BCI did not give any positive response on this. After this, the petitioner approached the High Court.
In fact, after hearing a similar demand in March, BCI gave assurance of considering this demand. The petitioner had given a report to BCI in this regard. During the hearing, lawyer Ashok Aggarwal said that despite giving assurance in the High Court, BCI did nothing in the last nine months. He said that the delay in including RTE in law courses will destroy the importance of the RTE Act.
During the hearing, Ashok Aggarwal said that the big problem with the full implementation of RTE is that students and lawyers are not taught about this law. This is very harmful for the deprived section.
