Ballia, 6 Dec (HS): A revenue department employee and his assistant were detained on Wednesday for receiving a bribe of Rs 5,000 for measuring a piece of property. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shiv Narayan Vais, a squad from the Anti-Corruption Organization’s Azamgarh section cought red handed Lekhpal Navneet Kharwar and his aide Chunnu Kumar while receiving the bribe on Tuesday. The action was taken when a Sultanpur resident claimed that Kharwar was demanding money for surveying his land.
Meanwhile, members of the Lekhpal association, led by district president Nirbhay Kumar Singh, went on strike in protest at Kharwar’s arrest. Additional force from Sahatwar, Maniyar, Bansdih Road, Sukhpura and other police stations called and terminated the demonstration. According to the SDP, who added that the situation now under control.
