Chennai/Amaravati, December 5 (HS): Severe cyclonic storm Michong over west-central Bay of Bengal is moving north-westwards at a speed of seven kilometres per hour during the last six hours. It is likely to cross the South Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam today (Tuesday) morning. Due to its effect, life is disrupted due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The Chennai Centre of the Indian Meteorological Department has warned in the morning that there may be moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu, namely Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, and Vellore. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin yesterday (Monday) discussed with the officials the damage caused by heavy rains and took information about the relief and rescue operations.
Five people lost their lives in separate incidents in Chennai yesterday (Monday) due to the cyclone. Trees have been uprooted in the state due to strong winds. Life has been affected due to waterlogging at many places in both states. The Indian Meteorological Department has also predicted rain in Odisha, Telangana, and Puducherry today.
