New Delhi, 4 December (HS): USA’s leading newspaper, The New York Times, has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the hero of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. The newspaper says that the elections held in five states were seen as a big test for the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is clear from the results that the BJP has increased its dominance in a major populated area.
The New York Times, a bitter critique of Hindutava and Modi, says the election results are another blow to the main opposition party, the Indian National Congress.
The Congress lost to the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. It won against a small regional party only in Telangana. The American newspaper’s view is that Prime Minister Modi is now in an even stronger position ahead of the general elections to be held in India in 2024. The newspaper estimates that Prime Minister Modi’s dominance will further increase after the inauguration of the temple in Ayodhya, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, in January.
