Balrampur, 4 Dec (HS): A leopard attacked an eight-year-old girl and abandoned her disfigured body in the Suhelwa forest in Bhagwanpur Kodar village on Monday, according to a forest officer. District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Singh dispatched SDM Tulsipur and a Forest Department team to the scene and ordered setting up of cages to capture the leopard.
Anushka, Chandra Prakash’s daughter, had gone out to play in the village that falls under the Pachperwa development block on Sunday when she was attacked by a leopard hiding in the bushes.
The people attempted to catch up with the beast, but it vanished with the kid, according to Forest Department Sub Divisional Officer Manoj Kumar, The girl’s mangled body was found during a forest department search.
The DM stated that directions for setting up cages have been issued, and the family would be compensated for their loss following the post mortem. Dr Sam Maran M, Divisional Forest Officer, stated that the department is hunting for the leopard in and around the sugarcane fields with the help of villagers and has been putting cameras to catch the animal.
Five individuals, including two girls, have been slain in leopard attacks in the region in the previous month. Four teams of specialists from Jaunpur, Siddharthnagar, and Barabanki visit villages on a regular basis, yet the huge cat remains at large.
