Mathura, 3 April (HS): Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, Minister for Sugarcane Development and Sugar Mills, stated that the Uttar Pradesh government will make sure that sugar mills pay sugarcane farmers’ dues within a week. “At the moment, sugarcane farmers in the state’s 105 sugar mills are getting paid within 10 days,” he told reporters. “Under past regimes, securing fast payment to sugarcane farmers was deemed a challenging task,” Chaudhary remarked, referring to the opposition parties. He stated that over Rs 2.04 lakh crore had been given to farmers for their sugarcane harvest over six years. The minister stated that Rs 21,620 crore had been paid as of March 31 for the crushing of 930 million tonnes of sugarcane this season.
He stated that the state now has 96 sugar mills with significant output. According to Chaudhary, orders have been made to keep all of these mills working until all of the farmers’ sugarcane has been crushed. According to the minister, the state leads the country in ethanol production, and efforts are being made to enable farmers to operate their tractors on this sustainable fuel.
