Kathmandu, 02 Dec (HS):- The bail applications of two former Deputy Prime Ministers Balkrishna Khand and Top Bahadur Raymanzi were rejected by the High Court. They have been in jail for the last six months in connection with the fake Bhutan refugee scandal. The bail applications of the former secretary of the Home Department and ten others were also rejected by the court.
During the hearing at Patan High Court one of the judges approved the bail application for Khand on a surety bond of Rs 30 lakh. However, another judge recorded his dissent note. The application was thus rejected.
In the high-profile scandal, several people were sent to the US on fake documents as Bhutan refugees. Several ministers and their secretaries were found involved in the scandal. The scandal was exposed and is being investigated. Millions of rupees were exchanged for issuing these documents.
