Prayagraj, 3 April (HS): The voter list for the upcoming urban local body elections have been revised by the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission. Almost 96 lakh new voters have been added to the list. Manoj Kumar, the State Election Commissioner (SEC), stated that as many as 4.32 crore individuals are now eligible to vote in the next elections. For the 2017 elections, the electorate totalled 3.35 crore. “There has been a 96,36,280 voter increase.” He said that the rise in the number of voters was mostly attributable to the extension of the municipal corporation and Nagar Palika parishad boundaries. Several rural areas have been included in urban bounds as a result of the construction of new Nagar panchayats,” claimed the SEC.
According to the SEC, another 21.23 lakh voters have been transferred from rural to urban districts. He predicted that more than 4.33 lakh people will vote for the first time this year. By January 1, 2023, these voters will have reached the age of majority. The urban local body elections are scheduled to take place soon, although no notification has been made.
