Chandigarh, 26 March (HS): The suspense surrounding the alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab has finally ended. BJP state president Sunil Jakhar, in a video message on Tuesday, declared that there will be no alliance between Akali Dal and BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The alliance between Akali Dal and BJP, which lasted for about 25 years and saw both parties forming governments in the state, came to an end amid the farmers’ movement. Although speculation arose following Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah’s meeting with the Badal family on the demise of Shiromani Akali Dal supremo Parkash Singh Badal, BJP has decided to contest independently in Punjab.
Despite numerous meetings between Akali Dal and BJP leaders, no positive outcome was reached regarding the alliance.#LokSabhaElections #SunilJakhar #AlliancePolitics
For the past month, Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has been diligently working to reunite his dispersed family and bring back all leaders who have departed from Akali Dal.
In a sudden development on Tuesday, BJP President Sunil Jakhar released a video affirming that BJP will field candidates on all 13 seats during the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab.
Jakhar cited unsuccessful attempts to forge an alliance with Akali Dal as the reason behind BJP’s decision to contest alone. He praised the Modi-led government’s initiatives benefiting farmers and Punjabis, including the historic decision to open the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor.#BJP #AkaliDal #PunjabPolitics
Sunil Jakhar urged party workers to unite and prepare for the elections, announcing that candidate names will be disclosed soon. With this announcement, Punjab’s political landscape is set to intensify, with Akali Dal rallying its supporters through the Punjab Bachao Yatra while BJP mobilizes grassroots workers.
