For vote bank politics, some parties played the ‘game’ of languages: PM Narendra Modi
Shri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research inaugurated at Chikkaballapur
Chikkaballapur / New Delhi, March 25 (HS): Referring to the challenge of language in medical education, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that some parties played games with languages for political selfishness and vote-bank politics. He said that our government has given the option of medical studies in all Indian languages including Kannada. The BJP government is emphasizing everyone’s participation to make India a developed nation by 2047. He said that India is on the way to becoming a developed nation with ‘everyone’s effort’.
The Prime Minister today inaugurated the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka. The institute will provide access to absolutely free medical education and quality medical care to all. It will start its functioning in the academic year 2023.
The Prime Minister referred to the language challenge in medical education and lamented that in the past, insufficient efforts had been made to promote local languages in medical education. He said that due to this it was very difficult for the youth coming from the village and backward society to become a doctor. The Prime Minister said that some parties played games with languages for their political interests and vote-bank politics. But to strengthen the language in a true sense as much was not done as it should have been.
Kannada is a rich language. The earlier governments did not take any steps for medical and engineering education in Kannada. He said that these political parties did not want that sons and daughters of villages, poor and Dalit backward families could also become doctors and engineers. The Prime Minister said that our government, which works in the interests of the poor, has given the option of medical studies in all Indian languages including Kannada.
The Prime Minister referred to the resolve of the country to become a developed country in the Amrit Kaal and the curiosity of the people to fulfil such a big resolution in such a short time. He said, The country has resolved to develop in the Amrit Mahotsav of independence. Many times people ask how India will become developed. There are so many challenges and so much work, how will it be completed in such a short time? The answer to this question is – everyone’s effort.
This is going to be possible with the joint efforts of every countryman. That’s why the BJP government is constantly emphasizing everyone’s participation. Social and religious organizations have a big role in achieving the goal of a developed India. Karnataka has a great tradition of saints, ashrams and monasteries. These social and religious institutions have empowered the poor, backward, tribals and other sections of society along with faith and spirituality. The work done by your institute reinforces the spirit of ‘Sabka Prayas’, the Prime Minister said.
Referring to the work done in the health sector in India since 2014, the Prime Minister said that our effort has been to increase India’s healthcare infrastructure. He said that in the last 9 years, efforts have been made to work very honestly, and very efficiently regarding health services in India.
Several reforms related to medical education have been made in the country. He said that in 2014 there were less than 380 medical colleges in the country, today this figure has increased to more than 650. He also underlined that 40 medical colleges have been developed in aspirational districts of the country which were once lagging behind in terms of development. He informed me that the number of medical seats has doubled in the last nine years. The Prime Minister said that as many doctors were made in the country in the 75 years of independence, as many are going to be made in the next 10 years. Karnataka today has 70 medical colleges.

He said that we have given priority to the health of the poor and the middle class. We have given priority to the health of the poor and middle class. We have opened cheap medicine shops, Jan Aushadhi Kendras in the country. Our government is engaged in giving such a life to the daughters so that they too remain healthy and the future children also remain healthy. Along with health, the double-engine government is paying full attention to the economic empowerment of mothers, sisters and daughters.
Paying tributes to the great engineer and diplomat Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the Prime Minister said that Chikkaballapur is the birthplace of one of the architects of modern India, Sir M. Visvesvaraya. Just now I had the privilege of paying floral tributes at the Samadhi of Sir Vishveshvaraya. I bow my head to this holy land. He insisted that it was the land of Chikballapur that was the source of inspiration for Sir Visvesvaraya to come up with new innovations and develop new engineering projects for farmers and the general public.
The Prime Minister described Sathya Sai Gram as a wonderful model of service. He appreciated the mission being carried out by the institution through education and health initiatives. He said that the inauguration of the Medical College has further strengthened this mission.
