G-20 guests visit heritage sites of Pune

Pune, 19 January (HS): Foreign delegates who came to attend the G-20 meeting here, visited heritage sites. During his visit to Lal Mahal, they were eager to learn about the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

This journey of the delegates started from Shaniwar Wada. Shaniwar Wada is a fort located in the Pune district of the Indian state of Maharashtra, which was built in year 1746. The grandeur of Shaniwar Wada, the entrance gate, and the huge complex was captured by the delegates on their mobile phones. Eager to know about the history here, they also asked questions about the guides. On the insistence of seeing the oldest banyan tree in the area in the same place, the delegates spent a few moments there as well.

The visiting delegates wrote in the register that Shaniwar Wada is very beautiful, splendid and attractive. The representatives heartily congratulated and thanked the administration for giving them the opportunity to visit such historical places.

On arrival at the Lal Mahal, the guests were welcomed with traditional customs. After seeing the statue of Rajmata Jijau Maa Saheb and Bal Shivaji Maharaj, they also learned about the history behind it, some even bowed down to the statue of Rajmata Jijau in the palace. They also captured pictures of the palace on his mobile. In the last leg of the visit, the delegates visited Nana Wada and learned about its history. Ajit Apte and Sandeep Godbole briefed the guests about the history and heritage sites of Pune.

The delegates visited the Aga Khan Palace and learned about the life of Mahatma Gandhi. They sought information about Gandhiji’s childhood, Kasturba Gandhi’s life, and Gandhiji’s residence at the Aga Khan Palace. Neelam Mahajan informed them about this and also told them about the historical importance of the palace. On this occasion, the guests also inquired about the spinning wheel.

City Commissioner Vikram Kumar expressed gratitude to the guests on the occasion, Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakane, Sub-Divisional Officer Santosh Deshmukh, Assistant Director of Tourism Department Supriya Karmarkar, Chairman of Heritage Conservation Committee Chandrakant Dalvi etc. were also with the delegation.
