Gujarat University to Provide Separate Living Arrangements for Foreign Students

Ahmedabad, March 18 (HS): In the wake of an unfortunate incident involving the assault on an Afghan student over a dispute concerning the location of offering Namaz, the Gujarat University administration has taken a significant decision to ensure the safety and comfort of foreign students. Separate living arrangements will be made for foreign students of the university in the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) hostel.

Every year, a considerable number of foreign students come to Gujarat University to pursue their studies under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). However, these students are currently accommodated in hostels designated for general students. Despite the presence of an NRI hostel, it has remained unallocated due to pending tasks such as obtaining a fire NOC.

Following the assault incident, both the state government and the university administration have taken the matter seriously, implementing immediate measures to address safety concerns. Stricter regulations have been enforced in university hostels to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the security of students. #AssaultIncident #SafetyMeasures #UniversityRegulations

Although demands for better facilities for foreign students have been previously overlooked, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi convened a high-level meeting, issuing significant directives to address the situation promptly. Subsequently, both the police and university administration have sprung into action.

Immediate steps have been initiated to provide separate accommodations for foreign students. The university has expedited the process of updating the NRI hostel, aiming to allocate NRI Hostel G-9 to all foreign students within three days. Additionally, Ashok Chavda has been appointed as the Warden of the NRI Hostel, and Dr. Kapil Kumar as the Coordinator at Gujarat University. Furthermore, there has been a change in the Estate Officer position, with Gajendra Patel assuming the role of In-Charge Estate Officer.

Moreover, Gujarat University has announced the establishment of the Foreign Student Advisory Committee to address the needs and concerns of foreign students more effectively.
