Delhi, 14 March (H.S): Engineer-turned-philanthropist #SudhaMurty, on Thursday, took oath as a Rajya Sabha MP in the presence of her husband N R Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys. The oath was administered by #RajyaSabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in his chamber at Parliament House, with Leader of the House Piyush Goyal also present.
Murty, who is 73 years old, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on International Women’s Day last Friday. She is a former chairperson of Infosys Foundation and the author of several books, most of which are for children.
She is also widely recognized for her contributions to Kannada and English literature and has received prestigious awards such as the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, Padma Shri (2006), and Padma Bhushan (2023). Murty’s achievements are even more remarkable considering that she was the first woman engineer to work at TELCO.
She is also known for providing her husband with the initial seed capital of Rs 10,000 from her emergency funds to start Infosys, which is now a global leader in technology with a market capitalization of over USD 80 billion. Her daughter Akshata is married to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, making her family’s accomplishments even more impressive.
Sudha Murty’s journey from an engineer to a renowned philanthropist and now a member of the Rajya Sabha is an inspiration to many and serves as a testament to her determination and dedication to making a positive impact in society.
