Sonia Gandhi files nomination for RS polls from Rajasthan

Delhi, 14 February (H.S) : On Wednesday, Congress President Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Rajasthan. She was accompanied by senior Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, as she arrived at the Rajasthan Assembly. Her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present during her nomination filing.

The announcement of her name was made only after her arrival in Jaipur earlier that day. Along with Sonia Gandhi, three other leaders were also announced as candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls – Abhishek Manu Singhvi from Himachal Pradesh, Akhilesh Prasad Singh from Bihar, and Chandrakant Handore from Maharashtra. Sonia Gandhi will be filling the seat vacated by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.

In a Congress Legislative Party meeting held to welcome her and her team in Jaipur, state President Govind Singh Dotasra expressed his belief that Sonia Gandhi’s entry into the Rajya Sabha will boost the morale of party workers. He also mentioned that this is a matter of pride for the state of Rajasthan.

Other leaders such as Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully and former CM Ashok Gehlot also spoke, welcoming the Gandhi family and highlighting the high morale of party workers.
