Chennai, 9 March (H.S): The ongoing seat sharing exercise between DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu has been facing delays due to disagreements over the number of seats given to Congress.
However, sources in the Congress party suggest that a final decision on the issue will be reached by Sunday (March 10). While DMK leaders have remained tight-lipped on the issue, a meeting between senior leaders of both parties is scheduled to take place at DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam.
TNCC president K. Selvaperunthagai has expressed hope that Congress will be allotted all nine seats they contested in the 2019 elections, including one seat in Puducherry. However, the final decision will be made only after the meeting on Sunday. Sources in DMK reveal that party leader M.K. Stalin wants to finalize the seat sharing with Congress at the earliest so that arrangements with smaller parties can also be made quickly.
In the previous general elections, DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) had emerged victorious with 38 out of 39 seats. The only seat they lost was Theni, where Congress leader E.V.K.S. Elangovan was defeated by AIADMK’s O.P. Raveendranathan.
